  • Abstract:

A construction crisis stimulates a network of communications within its host organization, the structure of which influences crisis management efficiency. It does so by determining the effectiveness of information transfer between project participants, and thereby the level of uncertainty, misunderstanding and ultimately conflict that materializes. These conclusions arose from research that was concerned specifically with the patterns of communication and behaviour that emerge in response to construction crises. The methodology adopted a longitudinal, multiple case study approach and combined the complementary techniques of content analysis and social network analysis.
